FMP Vertical Chinas are thin alloy slats available in 22”, 33” and 44” lengths. They create pang-type sounds that are easily modulated by bending the entire slat with one hand while playing with the other. Bending the slat while playing with the other hand modulated notes either up or down depending on starting bend and technique. Players can accentuate the modulation should that effect be desired. Group Vertical Chinas together horizontally, or stack vertically in sets of three to function multi-tonally like large industrial ago-go slats. The lean ergonomic shape makes adding this new sound color possible where little or no space is available, such as club setups, where space is at a premium.
Vertical China multiple mounting holes changes the hang point of the slats, which alters the sound depending on which hole is used. As an example, playing with mounting holes dead center produces a series of secondary reverberations, because it allows the Vertical China to pulsate from its interior axis. Another update is a cluster of “bullet holes” near the top of the instrument for customizing with Sizzlers, Jingles and FX Shrapnel.
